CM-DAT

Helping turn frontline insight into a scalable, technology‑led solution for social care

“Vivolution have been with us from the very start. They helped us commercialise what was originally a consultancy service and, through their technology capability and support securing Innovate UK funding, build our Core MVP. We simply couldn’t have progressed this quickly without them.”

Brian Pimlott, Founder & Director, CM-DAT

Working with a founder to turn deep sector expertise into a scalable product

Social care organisations collect vast amounts of data every day, yet much of it goes unused when it comes to understanding demand, planning services or managing future risk. In a sector under constant pressure, that lack of insight creates real challenges.

CM‑DAT was originally delivered as a specialist consultancy service, using data and analysis to help local authorities better understand cost, performance and outcomes in adult social care. The opportunity was clear: turn this proven insight into a scalable, repeatable product that could reach far more organisations.

Vivolution partnered with CM‑DAT from the very start of this journey. Our role was to support the commercialisation of a consultancy‑led proposition, helping shape the transition into a technology‑enabled platform. We worked closely with the founder to clarify the value proposition, define the route to market and align product development with real commissioning and provider needs.

Alongside this, Vivolution supported the delivery of a Core MVP, combining strategic decision support with hands‑on software delivery, ensuring the product remained grounded in real‑world use cases rather than abstract technical ambition.

Turning data into practical insight for better decisions

The consultancy work behind CM‑DAT has already delivered significant cost savings for local authority commissioners, helping stabilise budgets and extend services to wider groups of people.

The CM‑DAT platform is designed to replicate and scale this impact. By bringing together existing data and allowing users to run scenarios, the tool helps commissioners and providers better understand the implications of decisions, in terms of cost, performance and outcomes.

Early feedback has been strongly positive, with one London borough describing the product as “exactly what we’ve been crying out for.” The response reinforces the need for practical, data‑driven tools in a sector facing increasing demand and complexity.

From bespoke consultancy to funded product development

CM‑DAT’s proposition and customer base are highly specialised, requiring careful consideration of commercial viability and route to market. Vivolution supported the business with timely, specialist advice, helping translate bespoke consultancy intelligence into an aggregated, scalable platform.

A critical part of this journey was securing the right funding at the right time. Vivolution supported CM‑DAT to successfully secure an Innovate UK grant, enabling product development to move forward without prematurely complicating the shareholder structure.

This funding supported the build of the Core MVP and allowed the business to progress rapidly, combining domain expertise with a structured approach to product delivery, operating model design and investment readiness.

Expanding reach and unlocking new value

CM‑DAT is now focused on securing wider commercial engagement with local authorities across England and Scotland, building on early traction and validated demand.

Through development of the Core MVP, the team has also identified a B2C opportunity via a Marketplace Module, opening up new routes to value creation.

With demand for better planning and insight growing alongside an ageing population, CM‑DAT is entering an important phase, scaling a solution designed to help a sector under real and sustained pressure.

Supporting commercialisation, delivery and investment readiness

Vivolution supported CM‑DAT through strategic decision support, helping shape the transition from consultancy to product. We played a hands‑on role in AI‑enabled software delivery, supporting the build of the Core MVP, and in operating model delivery, ensuring the business was set up to scale responsibly.

We also supported financial clarity and investment readiness, including successful Innovate UK grant funding, allowing CM‑DAT to grow without compromising future funding options.
