Gordon Wishart, Founder & CEO, Check 4 Cancer

Supporting confident decisions and delivery across strategy, technology and growth

Check4Cancer operates at a critical point in the cancer pathway, supporting earlier detection through evidence‑based screening, diagnostics and genetic services across corporate, insured and self‑pay markets.

Vivolution worked alongside Check4Cancer to support strategic decision‑making and delivery as the business expanded its digital and technology‑enabled capabilities. Our role focused on helping the team make informed choices about where to invest, how to scale responsibly, and how to align innovation with commercial and clinical outcomes.

This included supporting the development and validation of new digital pathways, ensuring technology investment was grounded in real market demand and underpinned by a clear value proposition for corporates, insurers and patients. Central to this was aligning AI‑enabled software delivery with Check4Cancer’s strong clinical and evidence base.

Working closely with Check4Cancer and delivery partners, Vivolution helped bring structure to complex initiatives, ensuring commercial, operational and funding considerations were addressed together, not in isolation.

Strengthening early cancer detection through scalable, evidence‑led innovation

Check4Cancer has continued to build momentum across all three of its core markets: corporate, insured and self‑pay. Key outcomes include:

Introduction of cancer screening programmes for insured members with Vitality, AXA, Cigna and WPA for the first time Continued growth in corporate screening delivery over the past five years Launch of MyCancerRisk, an online cancer risk assessment platform supporting risk‑stratified screening programmes

Check4Cancer’s innovation has been widely recognised, including:

Innovation in Health Tech award at the 2021 Laing Buisson Awards for MyCancerRisk Diagnostic Provider of the Year at the 2018 Health Investor Awards

These outcomes reflect a consistent focus on combining clinical excellence with commercially viable, scalable delivery models.

From service innovation to funded digital delivery

In early 2022, Check4Cancer worked in collaboration with Vivolution and Open Frequency to develop and submit a Smart Grant application to Innovate UK for a new digital skin cancer pathway. Vivolution supported:

Strategic framing of the opportunity and associated risks Development of a robust delivery and project management plan Commercial validation of the proposed digital solution

The application was awarded £350,000, representing 70% of total project costs, following a high judges’ score. This followed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) grant to recruit a data scientist in partnership with the University of Essex. Together, these grants enabled Check4Cancer to accelerate development of:

A Skin App to capture high‑quality skin images An AI model for skin lesion reporting, trained on a bank of over 50,000 clinically tagged images

This marked a significant step in moving from concept to funded, deliverable digital capability.

Scaling digital pathways and extending impact beyond the UK

With grant funding secured and internal investment committed, Check4Cancer is focused on delivering and scaling its digital skin cancer pathway. Planned outcomes include:

Increased share of the insured skin cancer diagnostics market Expansion of self‑pay diagnostic pathways Creation of a model capable of international commercialisation

Next steps include pilot testing of the Skin App in clinical settings, further refinement following pilot studies, and continued development of the AI model to support accurate, scalable reporting.
