Enhancing the HealthTech economy in Scotland
Life may be simple, but death definitely isn’t, especially when it comes to the complicated and unsettling rigmarole of probate.
For the families of loved ones, the process can be upsetting, forcing relatives and friends to confront complicated financial decisions while grieving. For lawyers, costly and inefficient processes can hamper the ability to deliver for their clients. Exizent is a platform bringing together the tools that professionals need to streamline out the inefficiencies of the probate process and provide a high-quality service to clients.
Founded by Nick Cousins After seeing the frustrations faced by bereaved families throughout his former career in banking, and after suffering bereavement himself, his belief is that everyone should feel able to turn to a legal professional to get help with probate without it being prohibitively expensive or difficult.
Exizent are here to transform the probate industry with their specialist platform, helping you streamline inefficient processes and accelerate growth.
From the outset, Exizent has embraced a service/design led approach, focus on identifying, understanding, and solving real world problems that those working within the bereavement sector face today. Working closely with a service design agency (Nile HQ), it spent five months researching the market and its underlying issues before a single line of code was written.
As a new entrant to the market the team at Exizent spend a lot of time talking to end users and they take an agile and iterative approach to the development of the platform that responds to the feedback they receive. With advice from Vivolution, the business focused on early market delivery to promote validation and provide clarity on pricing and on what would drive wholesale adoption. Exizent also decided to initially focus on the legal services market as a “beachhead”, with the ultimate target customer base expanded to include financial services firms. The result was an “enterprise ready” platform, secure, resilient, and easily integrated into client systems.
Exizent’s stated purpose is to make the bereavement experience easier for everyone. Its goal is to streamline the estate administration process by connecting people, legal services firms and institutions together via an industry platform.
By embracing open data, cloud computing and application programme interfaces (APIs) it can transform a long, frustrating, and paper-heavy process into one which is quicker, easier and more transparent.
Vivolution’s support, including providing an office for Exizent’s 35 employees within VivoStudios, has been key to success. Our development arm, Open Frequency (VivoTech), assisted with the creation an MVP, which contributed to Exizent successfully gaining £3.6million in early-stage investment. The investment was also facilitated through VivoVentures, our open ecosystem that can connect early-stage businesses with the right investors, and provide the support and expertise needed to secure vital funding.
Exizent have also benefited from the connection to VivoConnect’s network of trusted businesses, such as accountants and lawyers.
Exizent’s next goal is to firmly establish itself as the leading provider of innovative technology services in the bereavement sector. That means building on early product and market successes, further development of the platform and continuing to scale the business. The company is always looking for opportunity to partner with other innovative firms and Vivolution will continue to support, advise and connect the team with opportunities across the Vivolution ecosystem.
